C H A P TER 1 C HAP TER 1INTELLITOUCH TECHNOLOGY Introduction The IntelliTouch system has three main components: a clear solid glass screen formed to match the shape of a display, a sophisticated electronic controller, and a software driver. The IntelliTouch Touchscreen The IntelliTouch surface wave technology touchscreen consists of a glass panel molded to the shape of a display's face. Each axis of the touchscreen panel has a transmitting and receiving piezoelectric transducer, and sets of reflector stripes. The IntelliTouch Controller The IntelliTouch controller provides the drive signal for the touchscreen, converts the received analog signals into digital touch coordinates, and sends these coordinates to the computer. The controller detects touches by comparing received signals to a reference waveform acquired when the touchscreen is in an untouched condition. Driver Software Elo driver software provides a consistent software interface among all Elo touchscreens and controllers. To prevent touchscreen breakage, there should be a compliant gasket between the back of the touchscreen and the front of the display to allow for variation in the surfaces when assembling.
