2.8. Alarm Output Connection The Hastings 400 Series flow meters include two software settable hardware alarms. Each is an open-collector transistor functioning as a semiconductor switch designed to conduct DC Alarm 1 current when activated. (See Figure 2-9.) These sink sufficient current to illuminate an external LED or to activate a remote relay and can tolerate up to 70Vdc across the transistor. The flow meter can read the analog value present between pins 5 and 6 on the terminal strip (as shown in Figure 2-2) and make its value available via the digital interface.
