Connecting External Devices When connecting external devices to your system, follow these guidelines:  Most devices must be connected to a specific connector and device drivers must be installed before the device operates properly. Hard-Drive Indicator Codes If an optional SAS backplane is installed in the system, two indicators on each of the hard-drive carriers provide information on the status of the hard drives.
