Codes And Approvals DIRECT VENT: This type is identified by the suffix DV. This appliance draws all of its air for combustion from outside the dwelling, through a specially designed vent pipe system. Having the fewest number of elbows is ideal, as they tend to disrupt air movement. Using 45˚ elbows is preferable to using 90˚ elbows.
