ASSEMBLY ATTACHING THE POWER HEAD TO THE UPPER SHAFT TRIMMER ATTACHMENT HOUSING See Figure 5. COUPLER GUIDE RECESS WARNING: Never attach or adjust any attachment while power head is running. ASSEMBLY If your unit has been preassembled, check each step to make sure the unit has been properly assembled. HANDLE LOCK FRONT HANDLE See Figure 4. WASHER 1. Remove the front handle, bolt, flat washer, lock washer, WING and wing nut from the Owner’s Kit. NUT 2. OPERATION ADVANCING THE STRING ADVANCING STRING USING THE EZ LINE™ TAP ADVANCE SYSTEM String advance is controlled by tapping string head on grass while running engine at full throttle. 1. MAINTENANCE STRING REPLACEMENT See Figures 12, 13, 14, and 15. SPOOL SPRING 1. Stop the engine, disconnect the spark plug wire. Hold the string head and unscrew the spool retainer. ARROWS ON Turn counterclockwise. SPOOL 2. Remove the spool from the string head. NOTE: Keep the spring attached to the spool. Remove any old string remaining on the spool. ANCHOR 3. Cut two pieces of string, each being approximately HOLE 9 ft. (2.7 m) long. Use only .080 in. (2.0 mm) diameter monofilament string. 4. I

3 2 1 MAINTENANCE REPLACING AND CLEANING AIR FILTER See Figures 16 and 17. For proper performance and long life, keep air filter clean. LATCH 1. Remove the air filter cover by pushing down on the latch with your thumb while gently pulling on the cover. 2. Remove the filter, clean it in warm soapy water. Rinse and let dry completely. TROUBLESHOOTING
Engine will not start: 1. No spark. 1. To check for spark: Disconnect the spark plug wire. Reattach the spark plug wire and lay spark plug on metal cylinder. Pull the starter rope and watch for spark at spark plug tip. If there is no spark, repeat test with a new spark plug. 2. No fuel. 2. Push primer bulb until bulb is full of fuel.
