GEAR Operator Preparation REDUCER Vent Plug Installation In order to keep gear oil from spilling out during shipping, REMOVE THE SOLID PLUG gear reducers used in gate operators have either a solid WITH AN ALLEN plug, or a sealed vent plug, installed at the factory.
