Each IAD provides dial tone to standard (POTS) local telephones and data service, using a single transmission link. The network architecture provided by the CPX-1000 enables ICPs to extend local dial tone services from an existing Class 5 switch over a packet-based access network. However, this configuration also enables voice traffic to consume bandwidth when a call is in progress. Typically, few subscriber's telephone lines are simultaneously in use, so the majority of the bandwidth is usually available for data service. A subscriber initiates the call by taking the telephone off-hook. and 2. The IAD notifies the CPX through the Common Channel Completion Signaling (CCS) channel in the voice PVC. 3.
