This is because MTX-H15 is designed as a self powered device compliant with the “Universal Serial Bus Specification Revision 2.0” It is mandatory to use an external power supply for MTX-H15. The RTC is powered with the signal VRTC present in pin 5 of the POWER CONNECTOR. See section 3.1.
