NOTE: The above memory capacities refer only to the GlobalMap's on-board memory. The amount of GPS data you can record and save for recall later is limited only by the number of MMC cards you have. You can save several different GPS data files, erase 'em and record new ones, over and over again. Like most GPS receivers, this unit doesn’t have a compass or any other navigation aid built inside. It relies solely on the signals from the satel- lites to calculate a position. Speed, direction of travel, and distance are all calculated from position information. Therefore, in order for the GlobalMap 540c to determine direction of travel, you must be moving and the faster, the better. Section 2: Installation Preparations You can install the GPS system in some other order if you prefer, but we recommend this installation sequence: Caution: You should read over this entire installation section before drill- ing any holes in your vehicle or vessel! 1.
