APPENDIX A - CHARGING TIMES To calculate the approximate charging time required to fully charge a battery, it is necessary to determine the specific gravity (or, percent of battery charge) using a hydrometer. Use this technique, if battery vent caps can be removed. Check each cell. PREPARING TO CHARGE 1. Determine voltage of battery by referring to car owner’s manual and make sure that output voltage selector switch is set at correct voltage. 2. CHARGER CONTROLS Charger controls are located on the front panel. Understand control use before operating charger. CHARGE RATE SELECTOR SWITCH • The Charge Rate Selector switch on the front panel of the charger (Figure 3) offers two 12 volt and one 6 volt charge rates for charging various types of batteries and an Engine Start position to assist starting engines.
