Batteries Battery operation is available for installations where there is no common (C) wire available at the thermostat. For battery operation, install two alkaline AA batteries. The thermostat is designed to operate up to one year on a set of batteries. A battery indicator on the display warns when battery replacement is needed. If batteries are installed and the thermostat is operated from 24VAC power, battery operation willoccuronly when 24VAC powerisnotpresent. The changeover between 24VAC po
