Anthracite is the best coal fuel because its long even burn time, high heat output, and cleanliness make it a good choice for the home. However, keep in mind it is a much more difficult fuel to use and requires more care and patience. The coal bed should be bright and vigorous. • If the fire is burning hot and there is a deep bed of coals, full loads of coal can be added at any time. However, if there is not a deep bed of coals, it is best to add small amounts of coal at first. CONNECTION OF CHIMNEY TO A MASONRY CHIMNEY THROUGH A COMBUSTIBLE WALL Figure 5 shows how to connect the chimney connector of a heater to a masonry chimney through a combustible wall.
