Selecting a Patch When you select a Patch, the sound assigned to each pad and the settings for MIDI, effect and pedal will all change instantly. Try each of the 99 factory-preset Patches to hear the different possibilities. To select Patches first make sure you are in the Play mode. Using a Footswitch to Select Patches By using a special cable (PCS-31; sold separately) to connect two footswitches (FS-5U; sold separately) to the FOOT SW jack, you can select Patches by remote control. When you press Footswitch 1 you will advance to the next Patch number, and when you press Footswitch 2 you will go back to the previous Patch number. What is a Pad Bank? The 8 pads of the SPD-20, together with 4 external pads (plus the 4 rims)—for a total of 16 pads—are referred to as a pad bank. What is the Layer Function? Layer means that two sounds are played simultaneously. The Layer setting is stored as part of each Patch. A Patch for which Layer is enabled will simultaneously play the sounds of both pad banks (A and B).
