The system requires signal reception from three satellites in order to determine a position. This is called a 2D fix. It takes four satellites to determine both position and elevation (your height above sea level — also called altitude). This is called a 3D fix. For example, if you have to extend the power cable to the battery or power buss, attach one end of the fuse holder directly to the battery or power buss. NMEA/DGPS Wiring To exchange NMEA or DGPS data, the IntelliMap 480 has one NMEA 0183 version 2.0 communication port. Com port one (Com-1) can be used to receive NMEA format GPS data or DGPS data. The com port can also transmit NMEA format GPS data to another device. The three wires for the com port are combined with the two power wires to form the power/data cable.
