II. SAFETY LIFTING CAPABILITIES The lift system is an electromechanical device designed to lift various types of mobility devices for the purpose of vehicle transport. The Outlander is designed for use with Class II, Class III, or Class IV hitches. Check the hitch capabilities of your vehicle prior to use. II. SAFETY HITCH CLASS INFORMATION Hitches come in a variety of sizes and are desig- nated by class. The classes range from Class I to Class IV. A heavier load requires a larger class, which has a higher tongue weight. Tongue weight is the amount of weight (downward force) that the load puts on the hitch. See figure 1. Figure 1. III. INSTALLATION LIFT SYSTEM INSTALLATION The Outlander is designed to be easily installed into any vehicle equipped with a Class II, Class III or Class IV hitch receiver. The hitch receiver should be installed no higher than 21 in. (53.34 cm) from the bottom of the hitch tube to the ground. WARNING! Remove the preassembled mounting hardware from the hitch tube. 2. Mount the hitch tube to the lift frame using the previ- ously removed mounting hardware. III. INSTALLATION WARNING! Route the wiring harness through the vehicle rather than under the vehicle to avoid coming in contact with sharp edges, extreme temperatures, moving parts, and roadway debris including road salt and other highly corrosive materials. III. INSTALLATION License Plate Holder The license plate holder should be rotated to the upright position during installation. See figure 9. 1. Pull the pivot weldment out to disengage keyway. You may need to loosen the pivot nut with a 3/4- in. socket wrench. See figure 9A. 2. Rotate the license plate holder to its upright position. Once in the upright position, the license plate holder will automatically lock into place. See figure 9. 3. Ensure the keyway is engaged then tighten the pivot nut

III. INSTALLATION Wheel Chock Installation Your lift is supplied with four adjustable wheel chocks, WHEEL CHOCK TOP that when installed, aid in centering your mobility device during loading. Follow these steps to install the wheel chocks: 1. Drive your mobility device onto the lift platform, positioning it as near to the center as possible. 2. Position the wheel chocks on the platform. IV. OPERATION LIFT SYSTEM OPERATION WARNING! The lift system is intended for the transport of mobility devices only. The mobility device must be unoccupied before operating the lift. WARNING! IV. OPERATION WARNING! Never leave a mobility device in manual freewheel mode during lift system transport, as the mobility device could roll. 3. Secure the mobility device to the platform using either the retractable tie-down straps (see figure 14) for power chairs or the automatic lock-down arm for scooters. IV. OPERATION 4. Raise the lift platform by turning and holding the key in the counterclockwise direction. See figure 13. Continue to raise the lift until the motor stops, then release the key. V. BATTERY CHARGING BATTERY CHARGING Follow these steps to charge the onboard battery: 1. Remove the onboard battery from the battery case and place it near a standard electrical outlet. 2. Plug the charger cord into the mating socket located on the bottom of the battery case, then connect the char- ger cord to a standard electrical outlet. See figure 20. NOTE: It is recommended that you replace the battery every 3–5 years. Store the battery in a moisture-free environment when not in use. MANDAT

If you do not feel confident in your ability to perform the maintenance listed below, you may schedule T-BAR INNER-TELESCOPING TUBE inspection and maintenance at your authorized Pride Pro- vider.
