2-1 Drive Installation Chapter 2 Drive Installation This chapter provides instructions for installing the drive in: ■ The removable media bay of a workstation or server ■ An external storage unit NOTE: For the remainder of this user guide, “system” will be used in place of “workstation” and/or “server”. 2-2 Drive Installation Preparing the System To prepare your system prior to the installation: 1. Perform a normal system shutdown. 2. Turn OFF the system. 3. Turn OFF all external peripheral devices attached to the system. 4. Disconnect all power cords - first from the AC mains outlets then from the system and the external peripheral devices. 5. 2-8 Drive Installation 1. Obtain access to the removable media bay. 2. Remove the rails from the drive. 3. Slide the drive into the bay. 4. Secure the drive to the bay. 5. Connect a power cable and a SCSI signal cable to the drive. IMPORTANT: If available, use the last connector on the power cable.
