1 Working on Your Computer Before Working Inside Your Computer Use the following safety guidelines to help protect your computer from potential damage and to help to ensure your personal safety. 2 Removing and Installing Components This section provides detailed information on how to remove or install the components from your computer. Recommended Tools The procedures in this document may require the following tools: • Small flat-blade screwdriver • Phillips screwdriver • Small plastic scribe Removing the Security Digital (SD) Card 1. 3. Lift and remove the battery from the computer. Installing the Battery 1. Slide the battery into its slot until it clicks into place. 2. Follow the procedures in After Working Inside Your Computer. Installing the Base Cover 1. Align the edge of the base cover on the computer and slide it on the computer. 2. Tighten the screw(s) to secure the base cover to the computer. 3. Remove the screw that secures the optical drive to the computer. 4. Use a flat-headed screw driver to pry the optical drive out of the computer. 5. Slide the optical drive outwards and remove it from the computer. 13

6. Remove the screws that secure the optical-drive bracket. Remove the optical-drive bracket from the optical drive. Installing the Optical Drive 1. Replace the optical-drive bracket and tighten the screws that secure the optical drive to the optical-drive bracket. 2. Slide the optical drive into the compartment on the chassis. 3. Tighten the screw to secure the optical drive to the computer. 4. Install the: a) base cover b) battery 5. Follow the procedures in After Working Inside Your Computer.
