GETTING STARTED ATTACHING THE ANTENNA Attach the antenna to the UH-050XR following direction as indicated below. Be sure the antenna is firmly seated. ATTACHING THE BATTERY PACK OS/GS 1. Slide the battery pack onto the bottom DUP LOCK of the radio. UH0-50XR 2. Use a coin to turn the screw that connects the battery pack to the UH-050XR. BATTERY CHARGE INDICATOR When charging, the CHG icon appears on the display. Note : 1. Transmit Operation is disabled when UH-050XR is being charged. 2. A single tone is emitted by the radio and CHG is displayed to indicate that it has started charging. 3. When the battery is totally empty, CHG icon blinks or the display may totally disappear, the radio will be unable to receive any signal and all the keys are disabled. OPERATION ➤ When you press any key (except PTT), a short tone sounds. ➤ See the Controls and Indicators page at the back of this operating guide for button and key operations. POWER ON/OFF To turn the unit ON, rotate the [ON/OFF VOL] clockwise until a “click” is heard. A channel OFF number and battery level should appear on the display. SQUELCH The squelch is used to eliminate any annoying background noise when there are no signals present. Think of squelch as a gate. Turn [SQ] fully Strong Signals clockwise. This raises the ”Squelch Gate” so Medium Signals high that only the very strong signals can get Weak Signals through. TO TRANSMIT AND RECEIVE The UH-050XR uses the 40 UHF-CB Channels. For your reference a list of the available channels and corresponding frequencies is printed at the end of this manual. 1. The maximum RF transmit power of UH-050XR is 5 watts. To switch to low power, press the [1/5W]. LOW appears on the LCD. OS/GS To switch back to higher power, press DUP LOCK the [1/5W] again. USING A REPEATER CHANNEL UHF CB Repeaters are used to retransmit or relay your signal. Repeaters will extend the range of your radio and overcome the shielding effect caused by solid obstructions. In normal Simplex operation, your radio transmits on one particular frequency and receives on that same frequency. TO OPERATE UH-050XR IN DUPLEX MODE Eg. CH01 is being used in your area for repeater use. Press [DUP] momentarily. The DUP icon appears. Press [DUP] again to deactivate the duplex operation. UH-050XR will return to simplex operation. SCANNING The UH-050XR has two types of scanning; Open Scanning (OS) and Group Scanning (GS), giving you flexibility and allowing you to use the radio more effectively. ➤ POWER SAVE Battery Save feature extends the battery life by switching the receiver circuit power ON and OFF. This feature automatically activates during stand by mode (RX mode without signal).
