Chapter 1 Scanning software The scanner includes a CD with scanning and document-management programs, as shown in the following table. Programs Software use HP Scanning Software The HP scanning software includes the Scanner Tools Utility, the HP Document Copy Utility, the HP PDF writer, and the TWAIN scanner drivers. ● Use the Scanner Tools Utility to configure PDF settings, map the scanner buttons to different applications, disable the scanner buttons, or view scanner maintenance information. Disabling the scanner buttons To prevent buttons from being accidentally pushed, you can use the Scanner Tools Utility to disable the buttons. Use the same utility to re-enable the buttons. To disable the scanner buttons, complete the following steps: 1. Load originals in the document feeder 1. Extend the output tray. For longer paper sizes, extend the document feeder extension at the top of the scanner. 2. Place the stack of pages face down. The top of the pages should point down ( ). 3. Adjust the paper guides to center the original. Press the bottom of the paper guides to adjust them. Make sure the paper guides touch the edges of the original. Note When scanning small originals such as checks, it is especially important that the paper guides

Note If you do not have NewSoft Presto! PageManager installed, you are prompted for which program to use for the scan. When the scan is complete, the scanned image is displayed on the screen.
