II. SAFETY Stairs and Escalators Wheelchairs are not designed to travel up or down stairs or escalators. Always use an elevator. WARNING! Never use your wheelchair to negotiate steps or escalators. II. SAFETY Positioning belts should be installed as detailed in this manual. See IV. “Comfort Adjustments.” Once installed, the belt should be placed across the pelvis as determined by your healthcare provider. III. YOUR WHEELCHAIR USING THE LITESTREAM JUNIOR PUSH FORWARD TO ENGAGE The Litestream Junior is a manual wheelchair. Either an attendant pushes it, or you move it by gripping the hand-rims (see figure 5) and turning them in the desired direction of travel. You steer it by turning one wheel faster than the other. To change the drive wheel position: 1. Press the quick-release button and pull the drive wheel off. See figure 13. 2. Remove the center bolt and nuts from the axle bracket. See figure 14. 3.
