II. SAFETY : NOTE Many municipalities have laws concerning operating your powered wheelchair on public roads. Be sure to check local laws before attempting to do so. STAIRS AND ESCALATORS Wheelchairs are not designed to travel up or down stairs or escalators. Always use an elevator. If you try to negotiate steps or escalators, you can cause injury to yourself and to others. III. EMI/RFI Laboratory tests performed by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) have shown that radio waves can cause unintended motion of powered wheelchairs. Radio waves are a form of electromagnetic energy (EM). When this energy adversely affects the operation of an electronic device, it is called Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) or Radio Frequency Interference (RFI). III. EMI/RFI Are all powered wheelchairs susceptible to EMI/RFI? Each make and model of chair differs in its ability to resist electromagnetic interference. That is, each has a particular level of “immunity” to interference, measured in volts per meter (V/m). A higher immunity level offers greater protection. In other words, a powered wheelchair that has a high immunity level is less likely to be affected by a strong radio source than is a powered wheelchair that has a low immunity level. What

IV. THE J AZZY 1400 Your Jazzy 1400 has two main assemblies: the seat and the power base. See figures 1 and 2. There is a variety of seating options that are designed to accommodate most users. Typically, the seating assembly includes the armrests, the seatback, the seat base, and the joystick controller. Your Jazzy seat may also have some optional accessories attached to it such as a basket, a cane/crutch holder, a cup holder, or a power seat switch. See XI. “Optional Accessories” in this manua

IV. THE J AZZY 1400 UTILITY TRAY The utility tray is located on the rear of your Jazzy 1400. See figure 5. A section of the utility tray is exposed through the body shroud. The utility tray consists of the ammeter, the battery charger lead, charger fuses, the main circuit breaker, light connectors (optional equipment), and the controller connectors. IV. THE J AZZY 1400 To put the Jazzy 1400 in freewheel mode: At the top of the freewheel/drive-motor lever is a release switch. To lift the freewheel/drive-motor lever, hold the lever while pressing the release switch with your thumb. Lift up on the lever. If the lever is difficult to move, rock your Jazzy back and forth slightly. The lever should then move to the desired position. With the lever in the raised position, let go of the release switch. The Jazzy is now in freewheel mode. See figur

IV. THE J AZZY 1400 ACTIVE-TRAC SYSTEM Your Jazzy 1400 is equipped with an Active-Trac System (ATS). ATS is a suspension system designed to make your Jazzy traverse different types of terrain and obstacles while maintaining smooth operation. With ATS, the front anti-tip wheels work in conjunction with the motor suspension to help you maneuver over obstacles in excess of three (3) inches in height. V. ASSEMBLY VERSA SEAT ASSEMBLY The Versa Seat is standard equipment on the Jazzy 1400. For assembly, please refer to the instruction manual supplied with the Versa Seat. OPTIONAL SEATING ASSEMBLY To reduce the possibility of shipping damage, some Jazzy 1400 seats are removed from the power base, and the seat-backs are removed from the seat assemblies before the Jazzy is shipped. V. ASSEMBLY 4. Plug the power seat switch cable (if so equipped) into the LOCK SEAT INTO connector on the utility tray. PLACE HERE 5. Secure the controller cable to the armrest receiver with one or more wire ties. 6. Route the cable to ensure that the cable cannot be pinched in the seat hinge. COMFOR T ADJUSTMENTS After becoming familiar with your Jazzy’s operation, you may find the need to make some adjustments to increase your comfort, such as seat height and angle, armrest height and angle, footrest height and angle, and the joystick’s position. : CAUTION If your Jazzy 1400 was configured at your Pride provider or service center, please consult your health care professional before changing the seat position or making any other adjustment. LOCKING NUT LOCKS ADJUSTMENT To change the armrest angle: SCREW IN 1. Lift the armrest straight up so that it is perpendicular to the PLACE floor. 2. Use a 7/16-in. spanner to loosen the locking nut. VI. COMFORT ADJUSTMENTS FOOTREST HEIGHT (OPTIONAL) The footrest height is easily adjusted to one of six different heights, in 2.54-cm increments. To raise or lower the footrest: 1. Remove the 3/8-in. bolt and nut from the footrest. See figure 21. 2. Raise or lower the footrest to the desired height. 3. Install the 3/8-in. bolt and nut into the footrest and tighten.
