Removing the Protective Materials The printer is protected during shipping by pieces of white packing material. Also, the wide carriage printer is protected by a locking clip, which must be removed before you turn on the printer. CAUTION: Before turning on the wide carriage printer, be absolutely sure you have removed the locking clip. Turning on the printer while the clip is attached may seriously damage the mechanism. Choosing a Place for the Printer There are several important things to consider when selecting a place to set up your printer. Keep the following in mind: Place the printer on a flat, hard, stable surface. A soft surface, such as a padded counter or carpeted area, will block the ventilation slots and may cause overheating.
