Set up your Gateway ® Refer to your User Manual for instructions on how to connect your Motorola Netopia Gateway to your power source, PC or local area network, and your Internet access point, whether it is a dedicated DSL ® outlet or a DSL or cable modem. Different Motorola Netopia Gateway models are supplied for any of these connections. Be sure to enable Dynamic Addressing on your PC. See “Configure Your PC for Dynamic Addressing”. 11

Administrator’s Handbook Configure Your PC for Dynamic Addressing The following instructions assume that you want to use the automatic configuration and address shar- ing features of the Gateway to provide IP information to devices on your Local Area Network. To connect additional computers that will use the Gateway’s address sharing feature repeat these steps for each computer. Microsoft Windows: 1. Navigate to the TCP/IP Properties Control Panel. a. c. Windows Vista is set to obtain an IP address automatically by default. You may not need to configure it at all. To check, open the Networking Control Panel and select Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4). Click the Properties button. The Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) Properties window should appear as shown. If not, select the radio buttons shown above, and click the OK button. 13

Administrator’s Handbook This user name and password are separate from the user name and password you will use to access the Internet. You may change them later. You will be challenged for this Admin username and ® password any time that you attempt to access the Motorola Netopia Gateway’s configuration pages. 5. Enter the User Name and Password supplied by your Internet Service Provider. Click the Connect button. You will be redirected to an Internet web page to register your new Modem. Congratulations!
