Getting to Know Your Microwave Oven Microwaves pass through most glass, paper, and plastics without heating them so food absorbs the energy. Microwaves bounce off metal containers so food does not absorb the energy. Microwaves do heat the CRISPWARE* Crisper Pan, however.
